At Lifestyle Pools we want you to enjoy your “Life in Pool” for a long time. To do so you need to make sure your pool and equipment are in tip-top shape in all conditions. To prepare your pool equipment for freezing temperatures, we recommend the following:
- Ensure your main pool pump runs continuously in freezing weather. A freeze protection device, activating around 34 degrees, can automatically turn on the pump. Regularly check that the pool turns on at this temperature.
- Keep your pool clean to prevent blockages in skimmers and the main drain, which can impede water circulation and lead to freezing. Despite the cold, remember to clean skimmer baskets daily if needed.
- Maintain the proper water level to prevent skimmers from running dry, which could cause the pump to lose prime. In case of low water levels, there won’t be sufficient water movement, increasing the risk of plumbing freezing.
- In the case of power loss, turn off all electric breakers to pool equipment. Remove all drain plugs on a pump, filter, chlorine feeder, heater, and any other equipment above ground that has drain plugs. Loosen unions on pump, filter, heater, and salt cell.
